the sicilian duet
the sicilian duet
My name is Lisa and I Love cooking! Like most home cooks I learned most of my cooking skills from my mother. She taught me to be creative in the kitchen, to experiment whenever possible, and the art of creating recipes using what I have on hand. I learned with a few simple ingredients the possibilities are endless.
When my mother and I are in the kitchen together we call ourselves the Sicilian Duet, this started one very fun Christmas in the 80’s and has stuck ever since. This site is dedicated to her. If I don’t mention my Zia or Nona what kind of niece and granddaughter would I be? Some of the best memories I have in the kitchen are with these women. We would often get together to make large batches of sauce, sausage, jams, canned fruits and veggies and our family biscotti.
I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and have taken culinary courses along the way while immersing myself into cultures via culinary explorations. During my year as a nanny in the French part Switzerland I participated in local food festivals, visited chocolate factories and shopped the local markets to get the freshest foods for our table. I have a strong love for French cuisine, I think you will find my recipes are influenced by my Mediterranean ancestry with a French Twist followed by a little love from my multi-cultural Canadian homeland.
This site is where the recipes that I created throughout my life’s experiences and travels finally get to be freed from my four walls. I believe food is Love and Love is to be shared, enjoy!
